Library Represented at Women's Symposium
By Karen Tjarks

Symposium tableThe Mary Couts Burnett Library was represented at the banquet of the 6th Annual Fort Worth Women's Symposium, hosted by TCU. Several women on the library staff attended and decorated their table with items in honor of the woman whose monetary gift became the basic funding for the library. Brenda Barnes and Janet Douglass selected a few books with especially decorative bindings and end papers for the display. Barbara Standlee designed and printed place mats based on the "About Mary" article on the library web page. June Koelker, Cheryl Sassman, and Karen Tjarks all brought heirloom mementos, including a crocheted tablecloth, crocheted gloves, lace handkerchiefs, and antique spectacles. Harriet Hunt brought an arrangement of roses in an heirloom vase. Susan Swain, who could not attend, prepared the portrait panels with Mary's picture on one side and an early photo of the library on the other.
