2001 Student Survey
by Sara Dillard

The Mary Couts Burnett Library conducted the 2001 TCU Student Survey during the Spring Semester. For the first time, the student survey instrument was available in both print and electronic formats. Printed survey forms were available within the Library building, while the electronic survey form was accessible via the Library’s home page. At the end of the survey period, 781 survey forms had been submitted; this represents an increase of more than 2 ˝ times the number of surveys submitted in 1999 (i.e. 273).

After reviewing the survey results, several themes emerged, e.g. open the library building more hours; provide more instruction on how to navigate library web pages; although most students love the “Bistro Burnett” coffee bar, they desire a wider variety of healthy snacks; reduce noise levels; and more seating & better lighting is needed in the library building. Overall, students appreciate the mixture of diverse resources and the helpful, friendly staff.

In its final report, the survey committee offered suggestions for action to Library Director, Bob Seal.Priority needs, with possible solutions, were identified. Topics include extending library hours, promoting library services, refining the Library’s web site, and improving lighting throughout the library.
