|Karen Weber Honored with Staff Recognition
Karen Weber was the recipient of the sixth Library General Staff Recognition Award at the annual staff and Friends Board luncheon in January.
The citation, read by Friends president, Bridget Thomas, said in part “today’s winner joined the staff in 1988 as a clerical assistant in the Periodicals Department and later became a Senior Library Assistant in the Circulation Department. In 1992 she was assigned a second position in the Music Library. Lacking an audio or musical background, she brought almost none of the technical skills generally required of the position. Through hard work and the ability to ask questions she became a valuable asset. She gained a thorough knowledge of audio equipment and has adapted to accommodate varied mixed media formats. According to one faculty member she never enables “bad habits” but reliably makes reserves available in record time and has been patient with late or imprecise requests. She has made materials available for class in emergency situations and on occasion has even gone through the trouble of dashing across campus to hand deliver personal items loaned so they would not be lost.
Beyond her dual library duties, she has taken an active role in TCU’s KinoModa world cinema series. According to John Singleton, who runs the series, “her analysis and assistance in selection of appropriate films is one of the main reasons that the series has done so well.” Karen continues to display a natural affinity for library work, displaying a great work ethic and true love of the profession. In May she will receive her MLS from TWU.
The award, funded by the Friends,
includes a check, certificate and addition of the winner’s name to a
plaque in the library lobby.
