TCU Press Autograph Extravaganza

      Gary Cartwright, senior editor for Texas Monthly, will be the featured speaker at the TCU Press Autograph Extravaganza. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Friday, December 4th at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Visitors are invited to browse, enjoy refreshments, and visit with local authors who will be on hand to sign books.

    A newspaper reporter and freelance writer, Cartwright has contributed stories to such national publications as Harper's, Life, and Esquire. In 1986 he was a finalist for a National Magazine Award in the category of reporting excellence. He has been the recipient of a Dobie-Paisano fellowship and has won the Texas Institute of Letters Stanley Walker Award for Journalism and the Carr Collins Award for nonfiction. He also won the 1989 Press Club of Dallas Katie Award for Best Magazine News Story.

    He has also written several books including Galveston; A History of the Island, published in 1991 and re-released this year by the TCU Press. Blood Will Tell, published in 1978, was filmed by CBS-TV as a four hour miniseries in 1994. Other books are Confessions of a Washed-up Sportswriter, published in 1982 and Dirty Dealing, published in 1984. HeartWiseGuy: How to Live the Good Life after a Heart Attack, with a foreword by Ann Richards, was published in 1998. He has also co-written three movie scripts J.W. Coop (Columbia, 1972), A Pair of Aces (CBS-TV, 1990), which he also co-produced; and Pancho, Billy and Esmerelda. Cartwright received his B.A. in journalism from TCU. He has been with Texas Monthly since 1982.
