Jewish Studies Library Being Established
by Charles Bellinger

A Jewish Studies library is being established within the Brite Reading Room, which is located inside the Mary Couts Burnett Library. The collection's official title is the Jack B. Friedman Judaica Library, in recognition of a generous donation by Mr. Friedman and his wife. An official ceremony honoring the Friedmans was held on September 20, 2000 in the Brite Reading Room. In attendance were MCB Library officials, Brite faculty members, members of the Jewish Studies Committee, and other well-wishers. This Judaica Library is being established to aid the scholarship and teaching of the Jewish Studies professor who will be hired by Brite in the coming year. New shelving is being erected in the Brite Reading Room to hold the collection. The collection will be made up of all incoming books in Jewish Studies, most of the large sets of Talmud, Midrash, etc. that are currently located in the main stacks, and donated books. The main stacks will continue to hold a large amount of Judaic materials that have been collected over the decades by the MCB Library.
