CHERYL SASSMAN HONORED WITH STAFF RECOGNITION AWARD
Cheryl Sassman was the recipient of the seventh General Staff Award, presented at the annual staff, retiree, Friends board luncheon in early January. The citation, read by Friends president, Bridget Thomas, said in part that today’s winner is recognized for “Possessing quick intelligence and the ability to accomplish seemingly impossible tasks and for never complaining of problems without suggesting solutions.” She was also portrayed as “Someone who handles responsibility with grace and humor.”
Cheryl has been a member of the library staff for 12 years, serving 5 years as a library assistant in government documents and 2 as a library specialist in the reference department. During this time, in 1995, she also earned a MBA degree from TCU.
Since 1998 the Circulation Department has benefited from her ability both to delegate and to mentor. Serving as head of this department, she maintains an attitude of exemplary customer service, even while serving as a focal point for complaints. She explains procedure/policy and escorts the inquirer to the necessary destination. The patron knows he/she has been helped.
As a key member of several library committees, she brings thoughtful perspective and her articulate contributions are most welcome and often implemented. She has also served on University committees where she helps enhance the library’s profile.”
The award, funded by the Friends, includes a check, certificate, and addition of the winner’s name to a plaque in the Library lobby.
