Winston M. Estes Papers
By Mike Strom
Special Collections is pleased to announce that the Winston M. Estes Papers are processed and open to researchers. A native of Quanah, Texas, much of Estesís writing reflects life in West Texas. His most successful novel, Another Part of the House, published in 1970, is set in the Texas panhandle during the Great Depression. His other writings include the novels A Simple Act of Kindness (1973), Andy Jessup (1975), and Homefront (1976). In 1972, he published a collection of short stories entitled A Streetful of People. The papers, which include manuscripts of published and unpublished writings, correspondence, reviews, and newspaper clippings, document Estesís writing career from 1956 until his death in 1982. A finding aid for the papers is available in the Special Collections reading room. The Winston M. Estes Papers is one of several archival collections in Special Collections documenting the careers and accomplishments of Southwestern writers.
