Amon and Nenetta in Fort Worth

Amon G. Carter and Nenetta Wiess Burton of Fort Worth married in 1918. Their children were Amon G. Carter, Jr., and Ruth Carter. Of their marriage, which lasted twenty-four years, Nenetta said he was "the grandest father that ever lived and the worst husband."

In 1920, Amon Carter struck oil for the first time while drilling for water with his father-in-law. He sold his share for $100,000, which was used to create the Carter Foundation.

The Star-Telegram began WBAP Radio in 1922 and WBAP-TV in 1948.
