Graphic design students create book jackets for once-banned books

Three graphic design students are winners of the 2017 Banned Book Cover Design competition hosted by the staff of
Mary Couts Burnett Library. The competition, now in its sixth year, challenges students in Typography II to read a book
that was once on the banned book list and design a book jacket, including cover, spine and back, to reflect the story.

Justine Rendle took first place for her design of Go Tell It on the Mountain by James Baldwin, Emily Hathaway took
second place for Henderson the Rain King by Saul Bellow and Britta Wichary took third place for Ulysses by James
Joyce. These winning book jackets along with other entries were on display in the Library during Banned Book Week,
        September 24-30, 2017.

Banned Book Week is a national, annual event highlighting the value of free and open access to information.
