as I write this column. The project is going Friends of the TCU Library Dinner

demolished was the rare book vault, now that the magazine, Stark’s articles and essays have
new vault is built. Within the vault, there are also appeared in Smithsonian, The New Yorker,
rows of compact shelving that make effective use of the space. Men’s Journal and many others.

Up next in the sequence of activities is the move of thousands of volumes
that are stored at the Camp Bowie location. With the new Library Annex fully
operational, we are consolidating all material, not located in the Mary Couts
Burnett Library, in the Library Annex.

The Library recently hosted the Friends of the TCU Library FacultySpeak
on October 14, 2014. This year’s presentation was given by Dr. Steffen Palko,
College of Education. The Common Core Explained helped us understand why
the common core is in the news so much these days. Another wonderful
evening occurred later in October with TCU Faculty, Dr. Linda Hughes, giving
her presentation about the treasures form the Library’s rare book vault. Mr.
Roger Rainwater assisted with her presentation, A Teacher-Scholar Survey of
Special Collections.

Plans are in development for the Annual Friends of the TCU Library Dinner.
I’m confirming the date with Mr. Peter Stark, author of Astoria, John Jacob Astor
and Thomas Jefferson’s Lost Pacific Empire: A Story of Wealth, Ambition and Survival.
I hope you will be able to join us for what promises to be an enjoyable event.

Sincerely,

Dr. June Koelker, Dean
