TCU scrapbook full of campus and athletic photos circa 1920-1921

SPECIAL COLLECTIONS RECENTLY OBTAINED A
TCU SCRAPBOOK FILLED WITH MORE THAN 600
PHOTOGRAPHS, DATING FROM 1920-1921. We suspect
the scrapbook was put together by Judge A.D. Green and his
wife, Ruth, both TCU alumni; his varsity track letter is one of
the items pinned to the album. Judge Green was inducted into
the TCU Hall of Fame for football and track in 1973.

The scrapbook is a remarkable assemblage—dozens of
photographs of the football, baseball and track teams from
these years, including images of fellow Hall of Fame members
Dutch Meyer (football), Pete Donohue (baseball) and Blair
Cherry. Likewise, there are hundreds of images of students,
the campus and a road trip several students took out west,
including Green.

An Enhanced Reading Room

Special Collections play an increasingly important role in university
libraries—one of the ways in which libraries build a distinct identity.
The Library is seeing growth in the use of Special Collections archival
and rare book materials as students are using the area more and more
for research projects. Additionally, students are accessing digital
images of these collections via the department’s website.

The growing need for special collections encouraged us to enhance the
reading room. Thanks to the generous gift from Dr. George and Sue
Sumner, a few months ago we added beautiful wainscoting, bookcases
and crown moldings around the reading room, giving it an elegant and
enchanting ambiance.
