Highlights Campus History

“From this day Henceforth...” Integration at TCU, is an exhibit showcasing the desegregation of TCU, highlighting
important phases of TCU’s history that may have been forgotten.

Located at the west entrance of the Mary Couts Burnett Library the display includes a timeline that commemorates court
cases, presidential elections and the civil rights movement in relation to on-campus events that underline the progression
of unity at TCU. The exhibit expands on some significant events, such as the walkout staged in 1971 by four football
players – Larry Dibbles, Hodges Mitchell, Raymond Rhodes and Ervin Garnett – protesting changes to the athletic dress
code they felt targeted black athletes.

This exhibition was created as a result of curious minds wanting to know when and how TCU became integrated. Special
Collections spent several months gathering the facts and believed having a timeline was the ideal way to present the
information.

The items represented on the timeline highlight school-related events such as the Brite College of the Bible accepting their
first African-American students, the day in 1964 TCU finally integrates and the black enrollment percentages at TCU.

The Integration Wall is scheduled to be on display through January 19, 2020.
